Effectiveness of flexible floating of foreign exchange in treating the structural imbalance of the balance of payments An applied study on the Egyptian Balance of Payments (from 2008-2022)

The economic theory varied about achieving the desired effects on the balance of payments as a reaction to the devaluation of the currency, which is a difficult option for countries that suffer from chronic imbalances in their balance of payments, but it is still one of the measures sponsored by the International Monetary Fund. The Egyptian economy has been operating for years under a currency overvalued in light of the inability of the production system to meet domestic demand, and this was reflected in the decline in the overall indicators of the economy. The study aimed to analyze the impact of adopting a managed float policy since 2008. The methodology of the study relied on measuring changes in the balance of payments as a result of adopting this policy, along with other explanatory variables Domestic liquidity, consumer spending, and reserves, to test the study's hypothesis, "that there is a statistically significant relationship between adopting a managed float policy and treating the deficit in the Egyptian balance of payments," using a standard model. And it concluded that the hypothesis was correct, as it was found that 81.3% of the changes in the dependent variable are due to changes in the explanatory variables, and that there are two explanatory variables that exerted a significant influence, which are the domestic liquidity and the reserve. Therefore, the monetary approach is the most effective in interpreting the Egyptian balance of payments
